Gifts, glasses outta The Terminator, and free the nip from SearchBar

The Good Sort Selects 005

The Good Sort is a newsletter from SearchBar - the shopping engine serving you only unique, rare, and exciting finds that beg the question, where'd you get that? If you're new, hi and welcome! If a friend forwarded this to you, subscribe here so you never miss out.

Hello!

This week let's talk; gifts that work for valentine's day but also any other occasion, glasses straight outta The Terminator, how to be a hero, and free the nip.

Also, you may notice we've had some work done.. We're referring to the slightly new format below, please tell us what you think at the bottom! And, read 'til the end for the best reason to share this newsletter with friends (cough, win $100, cough).

FRESH FINDS

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and it's the perfect time to send a token of love to someone (a friend, a more-than friend, yourself!) you heart. We've got seven not-basic selects for your consideration.

  1. Googly-eyed lavender filled sachets for your platonic love's underwear drawer

  2. A dramatic card for someone not so special

  3. Edible candy gems that taste sweet and look expensive

  4. Fancy jewelry, it's always a good idea (and pearls are in)

  5. Heirloom-quality leather toolbox

  6. Nicest gloves in the game

  7. Or, treat yourself to festive embroidered mules from Turkey

And of course, there’s always the tried-and-true staple: fresh flowers. Consider supporting a local florist. Here are a few favorites from around the country: Park Deli in Brooklyn; FLWR Shop in Nashville; Bloom & Plume in Los Angeles; Meta Flora in NYC, and the very cool Secret Flowers in Richmond.

WHERE'D YOU GET THAT?

Our find of the week... Matsuda's line of hand-crafted eyewear has been made in artisanal workshops in Japan for 40+ years. A rare combo of exquisite craftsmanship, attention to detail, and elaborately engraved frames puts the brand firmly at next level quality. Fun fact, Matsuda frames are worn in some of the '90s most iconic films like The Terminator 2 (above) and Beetle Juice. We particularly like these.

FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION

  • BE A HERO: Donate to families in Turkey affected by the earthquake. Sabah is a brand that produces great leather slipper thingys in Turkey and is taking direct donations and donating 20% of any purchase. Our favorites are this denim pair.

  • HACK: The only packing guide you'll ever need is here.

THE ASK: I refuse to commit to an “it bag” bag, but my canvas tote isn't doing me any favors. Can you pleeeeease give me some great everyday bags under $350?

THE FINDS: These picks are as functional as a canvas tote (stash your laptop, water bottle, assortment of groceries, etc.), but give you a more pulled-together look.
